Rahul Robin is an Indian mental calculator from the state of Jharkhand. Displaying a high quantitative and visualization ability from early childhood, Robin was highly accelerated in academic mathematics and used to be known for memorizing batches of phone numbers. When the pandemic hit, Robin began practicing mental calculation more formally, with a focus on oral calculations and multiplications, while also excelling at various online blitz mental arithmetic games.
Robin competed in Season 1 of Calculation League --- without significant prior experience in global calculation competitions --- and immediately demonstrated excellent visualization ability. Throughout the course of Season 1, he began developing his approach to more complex calculation questions, quickly improving along the way, and ultimately making the semi-finals and taking 4th place, a rank he retained in Seasons 2 and 3 after securing a variety of wins against highly experienced and accomplished mental calculators.
Robin prefers to do varied non-standard questions with mixed operations. He believes students of mental calculation should focus on practicing both oral and written questions and should emphasize versatility and improving skills in their weaker areas rather than repeated practice of specific tasks.
Robin holds a degree in civil engineering from NIT Jamshedpur.
Calculation League Season 1 playoffs: Deep into overtime against Abhilakshya Arora.
